Preparations for Tour de Barents 2010 have started (29.6.2009)
Games Organising Committee convened in Inari on June 26-27, 2009. Programme of the 2010 Tour de Barents was finalised. Organising Committee also discussed the action plan for athlete recruitment and sponsorship activity. Organisers will attend the Saku Suverull 2009 rollerski competition in Otepää, Estonia in August to promote the event to the athletes.

Tour de Barents Ski Competition 2009 has been postponed to spring 2010

Preparation phase of organization the Ski competition Tour de Barents in Russia, Norway and Finland has got a large positive attention. Sportsmen, business sphere, public sector, media as well as the general public have shown interest towards the event and supported it. The global financial crisis has obviously affected the organization of the event, but thanks to the interest and positive attitude of the partners, the budget of the event has kept its balance. However, at the finishing line of the Tour de Barents Ski competition of 2009 there have come negative signals from the Russian organization committee concerning their financial commitments of the event. It is obvious that flexible and professional organization of a large, over week lasting ski tour requires fulfillment of financial commitment of each party in cooperation. It is not possible to count on uncertain organization of the event.
In this situation, Tour de Barents Games Organization Committee has decided, in mutual understanding, that the event will be postponed till next spring 2010. The decision will make it possible better realize all parts of the event. It gives also even better possibilities, than current situation, to fulfill financial commitments of each party in cooperation. Spring 2010, after the Olympic Games in Vancouver, is a perfect time to realize this northern ski competition.
Tour de Barents Games Organization Committee continues its work. Immediate task, after this press release, is to define the situation and agree on continuation of the organization work with all the partners. Opinions of all partners will be taking account. Organization Committee will make a thorough situation analysis, what has been done right and which changes should be done. The work will continue taking account the results of the analysis. In any case, the definite and sustainable goal is to organize high level Tour de Barents Ski Competition in spring 2010.
